Yihyoseok archive Menu Skip to content Home About Contact Post navigation ← Older posts 호모데우스를 읽고 Posted on February 25, 2018 by veritaholic 호모데우스 – 유발 하라리 아직 호모데우스의 충격에서 깨어나지 못하고 있다. 전작인 사피엔스를 읽고 그가 흔한 베스트셀러 저자가 아님은 눈치챘지만 이렇게 내게 큰 영향을 미치게 되리라고는 미처 생각하지 못했다. 지난 십 년 이상 내 마음에 앙금처럼 남아있던 불편을, 하라리는 너무나 쉬운 방법으로 해결한다. 내가 감히 시도하지도 못했던 답이지만, 받아들이고 나니 모든 것이 달라졌고 이제는 그것이 너무나 당연하게 느껴져 오히려 그간의 내 소심함만을 탓하게 될 뿐이다. 호모데우스를 아주 간단히 요약하면, 인류는 아래 도식과 같은 시대의 변화를 겪고 있다는 것이다. 종교 —> 인본주의(자유주의) —> 과학 이 도식 자체는 특별해 보이지 않을 수 있다. 사실 호모데우스 역시 전작 사피엔스와 마찬가지로 이미 알려진 이야기들을 잘 엮었을 뿐이라고 말할 수도 있을 것이다. 나 또한 대부분의 그가 이야기하는 사례들이 이미 알던 것들이며, 책의 후반부 어느 시점까지도 그렇게 생각했다. 내가 왜 충격을 받았는지를 설명하기 위해서는 내가 안고 있던 문제를 먼저 이야기해야 할 듯 하다. 그리고 이를 설명하기 위해서는 내 세계관의 변화를 밝힐 필요가 있다. 한 가지 흥미로운 사실은 내 세계관의 변화 또한 위의 도식과 매우 비슷한 흐름을 겪었다는 것이다. 1996년 겨울에서 97년 여름까지의 기간은 내 삶에서 커다란 분기점이었다. 나는 이 시기 내게 매우 큰 지적 영향을 끼치게 된 두 권의 책을 만난다. 나는 독실한 부모님과 친척 다수가 목회자인 기독교 집안에서 자랐다. 자연스레 기독교 세계관으로 세상을 보고 있었으며, 가능한한 종교가 가진 긍정적 의미를 찾는 것으로 만족하려 했다. 창조과학 같은 과학에 대한 명백한 부정에
